Speculations
Welcome to the speculations page of my archive, in which I tell you about what I took away from each show that Sir Algenon hosted and what I think they mean.
Basically this page is "Autumn rambles at you about Sir Algenon for an entire webpage", starting with the 2015 fireworks.
The 2015 Fireworks was where most people who hadn't stayed in the hotel before first saw Sir Algenon. During this show he showcases his invention, the Symphonic Visualiser.
Throughout the show it's clear to see Sir Al's earnest sense of pride and joy in his inventions and when the Visualiser works successfully. We also get to know what Sir Algenon is good at: we know he's an inventor by the fact that he built the Visualiser, and one can tell he's got musical skills of some sort as he was able to "write" and "conduct" the music for the finale.
The 2018 Fireworks Spectacular was the next show that he appeared in, when he appears in front of two lost campers that had managed to find their way into Alton Towers.
During this show I quite admire the care and pride he takes in describing each coaster as he takes the two campers on a sort of magical tour around the park.
I'd say this show really displays how deep of a connection Sir Algenon has with the park (and The Towers) itself, from appearing literally out of thin air when the park awakens to his careful and very knowing descriptions of the roller-coasters.
2019 was when things really kicked off in terms of lore, with the proper introduction of the Powers of the Towers. Sir Al and his friend Captain Felicity stumble across the "core" of the park which, upon disturbing it, sends the PoTT (Powers of the Towers) into disarray.
While Sir Algenon and Felicity restore the PoTT, it's quite interesting to see how Sir Algenon responds to situations in which he didn't expect to find himself. The Powers gave him a bit of a spook at the start but by the time he and Felicity got to restoring the fourth crystal, they were confident in their abilities.
After they restore the PoTT, Sir Al gains the ability to harness them, using them for the finale. This is a skill he keeps for the foreseeable future, as a lot of his future appearance involve his use of these powers.
The next major shows Sir Algenon appears in are the Time Architects shows where his crew board Sir Algenon's Time Travelling Starship for unrelated reasons (usually cleaning or something similar) and end up accidentally activating the ship, which then sends them somewhere else in time. To my knowledge, Sir Algenon usually appeared on a screen to guide the main crew throughout the show.
I think these shows display his sense of leadership and his historical knowledge, as he's able to help his friends navigate the situation they found themselves in by using what he knows about the historical periods they've travelled to.
Its also worth noting that he sings in a few of these stage shows and he's quite good at singing.
The 2021 Fireworks Spectacular had, once again, more time travel. Sir Al didn't appear physically for this show, but his voice was projected over the speakers during it.
This spectacular shows how Sir Algenon, while able to harness the PoTT, still has some trouble with regulating exactly how much power he uses. We can see that when he sends the audience over 100 years too far back by accident.
Overall, it's a fun show that lets you see how his ability to use the PoTT to his advantage has developed.
The 2022 Fireworks Spectacular was the most recent show he appeared in (other than when he was up onstage in front of the lawns for the Summer of Fun this year but there wasn't necessarily all that much to that) , where he was up in screens on the lawns rather than onstage. This spectacular is much more about the individual coasters, with all of them being described as "acts" for it, as if they're putting on a show.
The 2022 fireworks also showed us some other characters related to specific rides, but more importantly it showed that Sir Algenon is involved with every part of the park, both the "good" parts and the "bad" ones. He isn't directly related to any specific rides, but he has a link of some kind to all of them. This makes it quite fitting that he can harness all of the Powers of the Towers.
